Dr. Tejpal Gill is an Assistant Professor at the Division of Arthritis and Rheumatic Diseases at OHSU. She has a PhD in Biotechnology and did her postdoctoral research in Immunology at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Gill’s research focuses on understanding mucosal host-microbe interactions in HLA-B27-associated spondyloarthritis. Using clinical samples from spondyloarthritis patients, and experimental models, studies from her lab have implicated gut microbial dysbiosis, altered metabolic profiles, and a dysregulated immune response underlying spondyloarthritis pathogenesis. A recent study from her group identified immunophenotypic biomarkers associated with ankylosing spondylitis.
Dr. Gill’s long-term goal is to investigate the mechanisms by which HLA-B27 contributes to spondyloarthritis pathogenesis, with broader interests in identifying microbial metabolites that may alleviate spondyloarthritis and associated gut inflammation. Her research has been published in various peer reviewed journals, and she been awarded the “Early Career Investigator” award by the Spondylitis Association of America (SAA).
